AI searches expose suspect in triple murder
AI Search History Examined in Bengaluru Triple-Murder Case
Thebangladaily.com – Investigators examining the June 22 killings of three members of a family in Bengaluru’s KR Puram area have focused on AI-related queries found on the laptop of 25-year-old technology professional J Kenneth.
Police allege that Kenneth killed the parents and sister of his live-in partner, Shweta, at a flat in Sai Green apartment complex in Seegehalli. The case has drawn attention not only because of the deaths, but also because investigators say digital searches made before the incident may offer insight into the alleged planning and motive.
Questions about weapons and attacks
Investigators found multiple queries involving artificial intelligence on Kenneth’s laptop. The searches included questions about attacking someone with a kitchen knife, blinding a person with vinegar and chilli powder, breaking the knees of three people, and overcoming three intruders.
Police said he had also looked for information about deadly weapons that could be used to kill people. Other searches involved handling repeated bank calls connected to a friend’s loan and declaring bankruptcy.
A senior police officer said Kenneth appeared to use AI frequently and treated the technology almost as though it were a companion. Authorities have not established what responses, if any, the AI system gave to the questions entered by him.
The material was identified while police examined Kenneth’s laptop and other electronic devices. Investigators noticed the queries through questions displayed in Google’s drop-down search suggestions.
Forensic examination of recovered bottle
A bottle containing vinegar and chilli powder was recovered from the scene of the crime. Whitefield Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Syedulu Adavath said the item had been forwarded to a forensic science laboratory for testing.
The recovery has become part of the wider evidence reviewed in the case, alongside the electronic records and witness accounts. The chargesheet filed before the city court runs to 2,085 pages.
Loans and family dispute cited as central issue
Financial strain and disagreements involving Shweta’s borrowing feature prominently in the police case. Shweta, also employed in the technology sector, had taken loans amounting to about Tk52 lakh over roughly one year to support Kenneth, police said.
The borrowing included a Tk30 lakh business loan, personal loans of Tk8 lakh and Tk6 lakh from two banks, and a further Tk8 lakh collected from friends, relatives, classmates and colleagues.
When instalments were not paid, the bank that issued the business loan sent a notice to Shweta’s parents’ residence. Her family then learned about the substantial sums borrowed in support of Kenneth. The discovery led to tension between Shweta and her parents.
Her father, Somsundar, later confronted Kenneth over the money and the loan notice sent to the family home. Police contend that the dispute escalated on the night of June 22.
Three family members died after alleged attack
Police allege that Kenneth attacked Somsundar, 55, his wife Muthulakshmi, 50, and their younger daughter Supriya, 20, inside the Seegehalli apartment.
Despite suffering several injuries, Somsundar was able to reach the staircase. There, he told security guards and others that Kenneth was attacking his wife and daughter. He was taken to a private hospital but later died from his injuries.
Muthulakshmi and Supriya also sustained multiple stab wounds and subsequently died. The chargesheet says Shweta told the court that she saw Kenneth attack her parents and sister.
The case underscores the expanding importance of digital evidence in criminal investigations. Search histories, device activity and online interactions can help investigators establish timelines, examine potential intent and compare physical evidence with a suspect’s movements or stated explanations. Such records, however, are only one part of a legal case and must be assessed alongside forensic findings, witness testimony and other material presented before a court.
Police have treated the alleged searches as significant because they were made before the killings. The investigation now places the device evidence alongside the suspected financial dispute, the recovered bottle and statements from people connected to the events of June 22.
