Homemaker Dies After Train Accident in Bogura
Thebangladaily.com – A 50-year-old woman died after she was struck by a train in Bogura’s Sadar upazila on Monday, September 28.
The incident took place at about 11am near Shahardighi, an area within Sadar upazila. The woman was identified as Rabeya Begum, the wife of Halim Khan, a resident of the locality.
Karatoa Express Involved
Rabeya Begum was on the railway line when the Karatoa Express passed through the area. The train was travelling from Santahar to Lalmonirhat. She was run over by the train and died at the scene.
Her death brought a tragic end to a morning in which she had left her home without her family noticing. Family members and people in the area said she had a mental health condition and was receiving medication regularly.
Family Receives the Body
Police attended the location after the incident. Sub-Inspector Bablur Rahman said the family did not submit a complaint in connection with the death.
As no complaint was filed, no post-mortem examination was carried out. Following the necessary procedures, Rabeya Begum’s body was handed over to her family.
A Reminder of Railway-Safety Risks
Railway tracks can be especially dangerous for anyone who enters them unexpectedly, whether while walking, crossing, or becoming disoriented. Moving trains need considerable distance to stop, leaving little opportunity for a train crew to avoid a person on the line once they are seen.
The incident also highlights the importance of support and close attention for people living with mental health conditions, particularly when family members are concerned that a person may leave home alone or enter unsafe areas. Such situations can be distressing for relatives and neighbours, who may be left to cope with a sudden loss as well as unanswered questions.
Rabeya Begum’s death has left her family in mourning after a fatal accident on the railway line in Shahardighi.
