Three Young Men Held in Srinagar After Suspected Stolen CNG Auto-Rickshaw Sale Attempt
Thebangladaily.com – Police in Munshiganj’s Srinagar upazila have detained three young men after they were suspected of trying to sell a stolen CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Balashur Bazar. The vehicle was seized during the operation, which took place on Wednesday evening, September 17.
The men were taken into custody after a prospective buyer reportedly became concerned when they could not provide registration or ownership documents for the auto-rickshaw. Police said the group had arrived at the market with the vehicle at around 5pm and attempted to find a buyer there.
Buyer Raises Alarm Over Missing Documents
The CNG-run auto-rickshaw was offered for sale to Yasin Molla, a local resident of the area. When he requested the papers connected to the vehicle, the three men were unable to show any documents. That failure prompted Yasin to suspect that the auto-rickshaw may not have been lawfully obtained.
He then alerted Srinagar Police Station. Police officers, assisted by people from the surrounding area, moved to Balashur Bazar and detained the suspects at about 8:45pm. The auto-rickshaw was also taken into police custody.
The incident highlights the importance of checking vehicle records before completing a private purchase. Documentation can help establish the ownership and registration status of a vehicle, particularly when a buyer is approached through an informal sale arrangement. In this case, the missing paperwork led to the matter being referred to law enforcement before any transaction was completed.
Identities of the Detainees
Police identified the detainees as Sajjad Hossain Shuvo, 20, son of Sharif, from the Aldi Rajarchar area of Munshiganj; Imran, 20, son of Azizul, from the Tengramara Camp area in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh; and Siam Hossain, 19, son of Munna, from the Madhabpur Tea Garden area in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar.
All three were held in connection with the alleged attempt to sell the auto-rickshaw in Srinagar. The vehicle was seized as part of the case process.
Milton Dutta, inspector (investigation) at Srinagar Police Station, said legal proceedings had been initiated against the detainees. They were expected to be produced before a court.
“Legal action had been taken against the arrestees and they would be sent to court,” Milton Dutta, inspector (investigation) of Srinagar Police Station, said.
Case Moves Into Legal Process
The detention does not itself determine guilt. The allegations and the circumstances surrounding the vehicle will be considered through the legal process. Police action at this stage concerns the suspected sale attempt and the seizure of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
For residents and potential vehicle buyers, the case serves as a reminder to remain cautious when purchasing vehicles through direct arrangements. A seller’s inability to produce relevant papers may require further verification before a buyer proceeds. Promptly informing police when concerns arise can help authorities examine the situation and prevent a potentially unlawful sale from being completed.
Balashur Bazar became the focal point of the operation after the proposed purchaser contacted police. Local residents also assisted officers during the detention, reflecting how public cooperation can support an immediate response where questions arise over property ownership.
Police have not provided further details about the original theft of the auto-rickshaw or stated where it was allegedly taken from. The available information centers on the attempted sale in Srinagar, the lack of documents presented to the prospective buyer, and the subsequent detention of the three men.
With the vehicle now seized and the suspects facing legal action, the case will proceed through the court process. Authorities are expected to handle the matter in line with the applicable law while examining the evidence connected to the auto-rickshaw and the alleged effort to sell it.
