Walton Plaza, MUN Alert launch missing persons initiative
Walton Plaza and MUN Alert begin nationwide missing-person information campaign
Thebangladaily.com – Walton Plaza has joined with MUN Alert to help distribute verified missing-person notices through its nationwide electronics retail network, creating a new public-information channel that could reach people in communities across Bangladesh.
The programme, named the Missing Persons Broadcast initiative, will display photographs and essential case details of verified missing individuals on television screens installed at more than 700 Walton Plaza outlets. The aim is to make urgent information visible to a broad public audience and support efforts to locate people who have gone missing.
Walton Plaza, described as the country’s largest electronics sales and service network, formally entered the partnership with MUN Alert through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at Walton Corporate Office in Dhaka on Monday, September 28.
Agreement brings together retail reach and public reporting tools
Mohammad Rayhan, Managing Director of Walton Plaza, signed the agreement for the company. Sadat Rahman, President of Zero Missing Foundation, signed on behalf of the organisation that founded MUN Alert.
The partnership combines a physical display network with MUN Alert’s existing reporting and case-follow-up facilities. People can use the MUN Alert helpline, 13219, to submit information about a missing person or seek updates on an existing case. The platform also offers a web portal for the same purpose.
For families dealing with a disappearance, the first hours and days can be especially important for sharing accurate descriptions, photographs, and contact information. Public displays in frequently visited commercial locations may provide another way for verified notices to be seen beyond social-media posts or personal networks.
“This initiative will help spread information about missing persons quickly and widely among the public,” Mohammad Rayhan said.
Rayhan said the helpline and online portal would enable people to report cases and monitor developments involving people already listed as missing. The initiative is intended to widen awareness while directing members of the public toward a designated channel for submitting or following up information.
Television screens to carry verified notices
Under the arrangement, Walton Plaza television screens will be used to show the image and key identifying details of missing individuals whose cases have been verified. The use of verified notices is significant because missing-person alerts need reliable information if members of the public are to recognise someone or offer useful leads.
The programme’s reach extends to more than 700 outlets around the country. Walton Plaza locations serve customers looking for electronics products and after-sales support, making them places where notices can be viewed by a varied and changing audience during normal business activity.
Rather than requiring people to actively search for an alert, the broadcast model places case information in visible public spaces. Someone visiting an outlet may notice a photograph, remember a relevant detail, or share the information with others who could assist. The effectiveness of such a system depends on clear, timely notices and on the ability of the public to use the reporting channels provided.
“Using our nationwide network and television screens for this work is part of Walton’s social responsibility,” said Zoheb Ahmed, Chief Marketing Officer of Walton.
Ahmed said the company’s retail footprint could be used for a purpose beyond sales and service by helping circulate missing-person information in locations throughout the country.
Focus on reaching areas beyond usual information channels
Sadat Rahman said Walton’s wide-ranging network could help carry verified alerts into areas that may be harder to reach through conventional channels. The collaboration is designed to connect MUN Alert’s missing-person platform with a large, established network of public-facing outlets.
“Walton’s extensive network will help take verified missing-person information to places that are otherwise difficult to reach,” Sadat Rahman said.
Zero Missing Foundation, which founded MUN Alert, is participating in the initiative through its work around missing-person alerts. The agreement gives the platform a new route for displaying verified cases while keeping its helpline and web portal central to reporting and case-related follow-up.
Members of the public who encounter a missing-person notice should rely on the details included in the verified alert and use MUN Alert’s listed channels to provide information or ask about a case. The helpline number is 13219, and the platform’s web portal is also available for reports and follow-up.
The Missing Persons Broadcast initiative represents a practical use of a national retail network for public-interest communication. By placing verified notices on screens in Walton Plaza outlets, the partners hope that more people will see the information and that relevant leads can reach the appropriate reporting channel more quickly.
