Three Suspected Robbers Held in Chapainawabganj Operation

Thebangladaily.com – Three alleged members of an inter-district robbery group have been arrested in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj, while police also recovered vehicles and seven cows during the operation.

The arrests were announced on Wednesday by Chapainawabganj Police Superintendent Rezaul Karim at a press briefing. The detained men were identified as Kanu, also known as Kandu, from the Argarahat area; Shafiqul Islam from Muslimpur; and Rakib from Uttar Dhobra.

Raid Conducted After Tip-Off

Police carried out the raid at Kanu’s residence on Tuesday night after receiving information about the suspected gang’s activities. Officers detained the three men during the operation, police said.

Two or three other suspected members of the group escaped after becoming aware of the police presence. The search and seizure operation resulted in the recovery of a pickup van, a motorcycle, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and seven cows.

The seized cattle and vehicles are being treated as part of the investigation into the gang’s alleged robbery activities. Police have not provided further details about the ownership of the recovered items or the locations from which they may have been taken.

Cases at Multiple Police Stations

Investigators said the three accused are linked to several cases filed at different police stations. The allegations include robbery, murder and drug-related offences.

Alleged Leader’s Family History

Police identified Kanu as the alleged leader of the group. He is one of nine brothers and uses a prosthetic leg after losing one of his legs.

Two of Kanu’s brothers were killed in mob beatings following allegations of robbery. The deaths form part of the family background disclosed in connection with the arrest, though the current case concerns the three men held in the Shibganj operation.

The incident also highlights the importance of allowing criminal allegations to move through lawful investigation and court procedures. Police action, evidence collection and judicial review provide a formal process for determining responsibility, while mob violence can cause irreversible harm outside that process.
