Land Dispute Turns Fatal in Rampal

Thebangladaily.com – A 24-year-old man died after an alleged attack linked to a land dispute in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat on Monday morning. The victim, Ahad Ahmed, was from Islamabad village and was the son of Sheikh Fariduzzaman.

The incident also left Ahmed’s father seriously injured. He was taken for advanced treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital, while Ahmed died as he was being transported to hospital.

Disagreement Over Water Drainage

The confrontation emerged from a long-running disagreement involving a piece of land between Ahmed’s family and two of his cousins, Baki Billah and Masum. Tensions rose on Monday over the drainage of water from the disputed property.

What began as an argument developed into violence, police said after speaking with members of the victim’s family. Baki Billah and Masum were alleged to have attacked both Ahmed and his father, causing injuries severe enough to require urgent medical care.

Land-related disagreements can become especially fraught when they affect practical day-to-day matters such as access, boundaries, cultivation, or water movement. In this case, the immediate issue was the removal of water from the land at the centre of the dispute. The fatal outcome has placed renewed attention on the consequences when family conflicts over property are allowed to escalate.

Police Investigation Underway

Rampal Police Station personnel visited the location after being informed of the incident. Ahmed’s body was being sent to the morgue at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, a standard step intended to establish the medical cause of death and assist the investigation.

“Police visited the scene after receiving information about the incident. The body was being sent to the morgue of Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.”

Rampal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rajib Al Rashid said police had begun efforts to detain those alleged to have been involved in the attack.

“Police are conducting a drive to arrest those allegedly involved in the attack.”

No information was immediately provided about any arrests, charges, or the condition of Ahmed’s father beyond his admission to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
