BRTA Mandates RFID-Integrated License Plates for Toll Efficiency
BRTA asks vehicle owners to install – The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has issued a directive urging vehicle operators to promptly install retro-reflective license plates with built-in RFID technology. This initiative aims to modernize the country’s transportation infrastructure and enhance operational standards.
Yesterday, the authority shared an update on its Facebook page, emphasizing that the measure is part of broader strategies to strengthen road discipline. The post highlighted the introduction of an Integrated Management System (IMS) designed to optimize toll collection processes across bridges and highways.
Automated Toll Collection System
According to the notice, the government has decided to implement an IMS to improve toll plaza efficiency. RFID tags embedded in license plates will allow for seamless, automatic payments, reducing congestion and human error.
“Delays in adopting these plates are impeding the progress of automated toll systems and road management reforms,” stated BRTA officials in the update.
Despite receiving SMS alerts about the availability of the new plates, many drivers have not yet installed them. This has caused bottlenecks in the rollout of modern toll collection technologies. The authority stressed the urgency of compliance, urging affected owners to act swiftly.
Compliance Deadline
Vehicle owners who have not completed the installation process are directed to contact their local BRTA offices immediately. Failure to comply could result in legal consequences under current transportation regulations.
